Anita Bell February meeting
At our February meeting, Anita took us on her Textile Journey. From taking a further education art class, she progress through to taking a Foundation Degree at what was Bishop Otter College in Chichester – now Chichester University. There came across Carol Naylor, head of the textile Department and fell in love with machine stitching. Anita has developed her own unique style which incorporates her first love of art, with experimental textiles.
We were amazed by her delicate pieces many of which involved machine stitching onto painted tissue paper with soluble fabric. Imagine washing the soluble fabric away without destroying the tissue paper underneath! Anita spent time taking us though the various stages of her work – family holidays in France had to incorporate her visiting churches where frescos abounded. Later works have used the inspiration of the wonderful sunsets she has captured from her home near Portsdown Hill and also her garden.
Anita is now using Japanese Tissue papers for some of her artistic pieces – based on the natural world around her and from her visits abroad. Anita is returning to Liss on 5th April to hold a workshop. How exciting!
